St. George's, Truro Starting from 24th January, 2010 we are launching a new non-Eucharistic informal "Together in Worship" family service starting at 10.30am after breakfast which will be served in the hall from 10.00am. This is Church - but not as we know it! The idea is to make Church more accessible for those wishing to explore the Christian faith in a friendly, safe environment. All are welcome!
It's a Family Affair at St. George's
At St. George's Church in Truro the family friendly atmosphere now extends to a father and daughter team on the parochial council. John Endacott has been appointed as churchwarden and Sophie Endacott at 18 becomes the youngest member of the council ever in the church's 150 year history and also one of the youngest in the Diocese.
Sophie is currently completing her A Levels at Truro College having previously attended Bosvigo and Richard Lander Schools. She is an acolyte at the church having attended St. George's since she first went to Sunday School which she then followed with Rainbows, Brownies and Guides. Sophie said "I enjoy taking part in the ritual and ceremony of services at St. George's and being a member of the congregation. I was very nervous at first when asked to serve in church but now I find it to be a very rewarding experience".
John, a partner at Truro based accountants Winter
Rule is rooted in the Anglo-Catholic high church tradition of St. George's
having grown up in Ferris Town and attended the Cathedral School as a boy.
According to John the Anglo-Catholic tradition is very family friendly as
the changing pattern of services over the year and the traditional rituals
provide a comfortable environment for children. John also believes that the
9 a.m. Sunday service suits families who are already up and about and leaves
the rest of the day free for other activities.
Our Web Shop has been launched to help raise money for the Church.
Sadly, St. Paul's Church, Agar Road, which has been a prominent an iconic Christian building in Truro for almost a century and a half, has had to close for health and safety reasons. The east end and tower of the church are in a precarious condition and threaten the safety of worshippers. The Christian community of St. Paul's elected to move to St. John's Church in Lemon Street and join with the Christian community there for worship. For details of services and times click here.
The Bishop of Truro has formally licensed Archbishop Benson School Hall as a Place of Worship. "Holy Commotion!" St. Paul's Church in the School, meets every other Wednesday at 6.30pm offering non-Eucharistic family worship for all.
