'Holy Commotion' -
A Fresh expression of Church!
A kind of 'Church in the School'!
At 6.30pm on alternate Wednesdays (see side panel for dates), there is a gathering in the hall at Archbishop Benson School for a short, informal act of worship. There are songs, a prayer, a reading and some fun! Any and everyone is welcome. If you don't fancy formal Sunday Church but want to explore the Christian faith in a familiar and 'safe' environment, this could be for you.
Simple refreshments of tea and squash, are served after and an opportunity to meet other, like minded people.
The emphasis will be on informality, fun, and the involvement of children.
Why not come along and try it! See below or panel for dates!

"holy commotion!" and "Emmaus"
Winter term 2008
"Holy Commotion!" has now established itself as a regular fortnightly
informal act of worship at 6.30pm in the school hall. The emphasis is on fun
and encouraging children to share and participate in worship. The current
programme is shown below.
In addition, in order to address the needs of those wanting to explore their own spirituality or beliefs, or specific aspects of the Christian faith an "Emmaus" course runs alongside "Holy Commotion!" on the alternate Wednesday evenings.
"Emmaus" is a course to welcome people into the Christian faith and the life of the church. It will be a 'safe' forum where individuals can ask those awkward questions, challenge and explore the Christian faith. It will be a forum where no one should feel uncomfortable asking difficult or, what appear to be simple, questions-that is the whole purpose of "Emmaus".
The "Emmaus" programme:
The Christian life is a journey. One of the most important stages on the journey
is when a person who is an interested enquirer begins to learn about the faith
in company with other enquirers and established Christians. The Emmaus Nurture
course will enable us to do just that.
The initial course began with a social evening followed
by a series of 6 sessions from September to December. Each session is self-contained
and designed to fit into a single evening. "Emmaus" will run alongside
"Holy Commotion!" on alternate Wednesdays.
The 15 sessions are:
PART 1: WHAT CHRISTIANS
BELIEVE
Introductory social evening
God is there and he matters
We need God in our lives
Jesus - his ministry and death
The Resurrection of Jesus
The Holy Spirit
Becoming a Christian
PART 2: HOW CHRISTIANS GROW
Learning to pray
Reading the Bible
Belonging to the Church
Sharing Holy Communion
These modules have now been completed but may be re-run depending on demand later in the year. The subsequent sessions comprising the following modules will continue after Easter. See panel above right for dates
PART 3: LIVING THE CHRISTIAN LIFE
Living God's way
Serving the Lord
Your money and your life
Learning to love
Sharing the faith
Questions you may have...
What can I expect to find in each session?
Each session will include a simple Bible study, input from leaders and discussion
by the group, meditations, exploration of ways to put faith into practice,
and prayers. In this way we hope to help you to develop your own personal
faith and identity within the Christian community.
The course is especially designed for those who are simply asking those basic questions; "Is there a God?", "how do I engage with my own spirituality?", "who was this man, Jesus?", "what is the meaning of life?"...
It is also suitable for those who are new to the Christian faith and are wanting to grow. It can also serve as a refresher course on the basics of the Christian faith.
How long will each session be?
I anticipate that each session will be about an hour. Given the nature of
the course it may be that some weeks our discussions will dictate that we
take a little longer, sometimes a little less. I prefer not to be too rigid
but allow a degree of flexibility, if all participants are happy with a flexible
timing.
When will we meet?
All "Emmaus" meetings will take place in the staff room at school,
(Archbisop Benson CEVA School, Bodmin Road, Truro) at 6.30pm.
